My First 5 Question Friday!

My Little Life

I have been waiting to do 5 Question Friday for awhile now! So I decided today is the day! Its Friday and I have time! Please join Mama M and everyone else by going to My Little Life just click here.

1. Did you pass your driver's test on the first try?

Yes I did! I don’t remember the score I got because I was too excited to have my picture taken. Also, my dad had an 89 Chrysler Lebaron convertible in the driveway just waiting for me to drive.

2. What is your most embarrassing moment?

This one I remember like it was yesterday! I was at the University of Iowa with all my friends. We were at a dance club together, dancing like it was our job. All of a sudden I heard a rip. I asked my friend Jen to look and see if I just ripped my pants. Sure enough I ripped them straight up. If that wasn’t embarrassing enough, I was wearing a thong. Oh yes. Embarrassing.

3. What TV show would you like to be on- Oprah, Biggest Loser, or What Not to Wear?

I would like to be on What Not to Wear. A day of shopping in New York City and a $5000 credit card. Who wouldn’t want to be on this show? Everyone can use the help of Stacey and Clinton.

4. Would you ever get plastic surgery and what kind?

Yes I would. Maybe it is vain but honestly I wouldn’t do it for anyone else but myself. I can’t say I wouldn’t want a little nip and tuck in my midsection. If I could get that done today I would.

5. What are your favorite jeans to wear?

As of a month ago, Silver jeans were my favorite. But I have fallen in love with a new brand. See thru Soul is my new favorite. I love the dark colored jeans and the bootcut is perfect for gym shoes, boots, Uggs, and even ballet flats.

Do you want to answer these questions? Go ahead. It is easy and fun. After you have your post just link up!

Have a happy Friday!

Well, alright then !

This post should really be called … I love The Blindside movie and I want to be just like Leanne Tuohy … but that would just have been too long.

image

If you haven’t seen The Blindside yet … go rent it!

The first time I saw this movie was on New Year’s Eve with Dan and Jacob. We really didn’t have plans for the evening and I just decided to see what movies were in the theater. We had 30 minutes until The Blindside started, so we jumped in the car and got their as quickly as possible. (Going the speed limit of course!) We had to sit in the first couple of rows and wrench our necks to see it but it was well worth it.

Side note: I think Jacob likes this movie more than I do. His second favorite movie may just be Fireproof. He asks to see both of these movies all the time.

Back to the main reason for this post … I want to be just like Leanne Tuohy. She is outspoken, energetic, sympathetic, and she does what she wants to. She doesn’t seem to fear what other people think of her, school is important, and she wants the best for her children.

I want to be like that. More often than not I worry if everyone will approve of my choices. I wish I had the confidence to do what I know is right regardless of what other people think.

I want to question authority. Just because they are in charge doesn’t mean they have all the right answers.

I want to always look good. Not just wearing a t-shirt jeans because it is quick to throw on.

I want to be an adoptive mother to a child who needs a home.

Last night, when Dan and I watched the movie again I asked him if I could be like Leanne and he told me I already was.

I love him for saying that.

If you could be like someone … who would it be?

Why I love my church: Part 2

image

I have mentioned before that I love my church. I attend Harvest Bible Church and I have been going there for many years on and off. You can visit my church’s website to watch sermons, get connected to small groups, submit prayer requests, and find information about the children’s programs available. If you want to check out my church’s website click here.

The reason I am loving my church today is the fact that the church has issued a challenge to issue 500 boxes of food to the Children’s Hunger Fund. The best part of this is that we get to actually meet the families that this food will go to.

Dan, Jacob, Christian, and myself picked up two boxes to fill. When filling a box you should pray for the families that the food will go to.

I am really looking forward to doing this as a family.

Then …. on April 17th, our church will celebrate Compassion Day and deliver the 500 boxes of food to the families in the area.

I will upload pictures of us getting the food, putting it in the boxes, praying over the food, and hopefully Compassion Day pictures.

Please pray for our church and the families receiving this food.

Goodness gracious, I love my church.

Not Me Monday!

I know ... I know ... I have not done a Not Me! Monday! post in forever but I had time between classes and wanted to join in.

Not Me! Monday! was designed to release any fears or anxieties about the things you have ... umm or have not done. This is a great way to relieve stress and trust me you will get a huge laugh from reading other Not Me! Monday! posts. Go ahead ... click here ... trust me you will feel better once you have.

I most certainly did not lock myself in my room yesterday in order to finish a paper I procrastinated on for over a week.

I did not tell Jacob that I did not care the amount of times he could jump rope without stopping.

I did not also tell Jacob that if he did not stop jumping rope in my bedroom that I would throw the jump rope out the window.

Honestly, what kind of mother does those things?

Also, I did not have to have a conversation with Christian about "winkys" and why we shouldn't like "winkys" in our face.

I also did not ask him why he said he likes "winkys" in his face nor did I laugh out loud after hearing him explain that a "winky" is a type of snack like a cracker.

Why is it that mothers of boys have to discuss "winkys" and butts all the time?

At the Awana's this week, Jacob did not tell his teacher that we haven't been practicing the books of the Bible ... seriously we have been practicing.

Also, he did not use his Awana bucks to purchase a new whoopie cushion that replaced the one that mysteriously disappeared just weeks earlier.

What kind of mother hides their child's most prized possession (a fart maker) by sticking it under the cushion on the couch knowing their child will never look there?

Well I feel much better about the things I may or may not have done over the past week!

Join in on all the fun and visit MckMama by clicking here.

It cannot get better than this!

This post will be short and sweet!

  • Last week, Jacob was released from Reading Recovery. He has caught up with his 1st grade class in reading and no longer needs individual instruction. (Did I tell you this already?)
  • Monday, I got a letter to join Kappa Delta Pi (the International Education Honors Society). This is just showing that all my hard work and effort is being recognized. I couldn’t be happier.
  • For the last two weeks, Jacob has had good behavior reports and earned himself a jump rope, sour straws, and a flashlight. (He picked these things as his rewards!)
  • Nine more weeks until this semester is over.
  • I lost my debit card but no unwanted charges are on my statement. I ordered a new one and should get it in 7-10 business days. (This isn’t great news but the unwanted charges part is a blessing.)
  • I am falling more and more in love with Dan every day. He is always thinking about me and my needs. He is selfless and it is a God send we found each other.
  • I have a midterm tomorrow. I am hoping I do well. Even though this class is tough, I enjoy working hard and proving to myself what I am capable of.

I know bullet points are lame but I just couldn’t help myself on this post. I am taking a tiny break from studying to write this. Now I better get back to my homework.

I will update you later as to how well I did. (The power of positive thinking!)

The night before Spring Break is officially over!

I have officially had 9 days without school. You would think that I would be bored to death but no I ENJOYED EVERY MINUTE. I dropped Jacob off at school (I do that normally), cleaned the house,  watched daytime TV, made dinner, and hung out with my Mom (very much needed girl time).

Dinners were not rushed. I spent quality time with Dan and Jacob.

But alas, school starts back up again tomorrow. This week is going to be tough. I have quizzes, portfolios, and an egg lab due.

Back to the grind for me.

What are your plans for this week?

p.s.- I promise to update more regularly. I miss blogging!

The Buried Life …

Did any one watch The Buried Life on MTV? The premise of the show is to make a list of things to do before you die, follow through with your list, and encourage/help people accomplish their list as well.

Before I even watched one episode, I feel in love with the idea of making a list of things to do before you die. I watched the episodes laughing, crying, hoping, and wishing along with the cast members of the show and the lives of the people they touched.

My brother, Mark, and I have been consistently talking about what we would list as things we would do before we die.

His list is so much more creative than mine is. He wants to surf in the waves of Hawaii and move to another state. (Honestly, he said more than that but I cannot remember what they all were)

So here is my own buried life list ….

1. Sing in a band.

2. Visit an orphanage in another country.

3. Adopt a child.

4. Be an elementary school teacher.

5. Tell my story to a group of people.

6. Fulfill God’s purpose for my life.

7. Live in England for a year.

If you had to make list of things to do before you died … What would be on it?

Oh, how the time flies!

I cannot believe that it has been almost ONE MONTH since I posted last! Time is flying. My second semester back at school is half way done. Almost every night I am doing a gobzillion amount of homework. (FYI – gobzillion isn’t a word but it does accurately describe the amount of work I have to do – hee hee)There are a few things up in the air but if all goes according to plan I should be student teaching the Fall of 2012. (Doesn’t that seem incredibly far away? It does to me!)

Anyway … Little Man turned 7 years old on February 15th. I cannot believe how quickly he is growing up. I am thankful for this time in my life because I get to be around Little Man much more than I did when I was working. He loves having me around.

The other night when I was tucking Little Man into bed he told me that he is glad God gave him to me because I am the best mom in the world!

He sure does know how to melt his mom’s heart! (Blushing)

On another positive note – Jacob is not going to special reading anymore. He has done so tremendously well that he is reading at grade level. I am so proud of him and he is really proud of himself too!

He has worked so hard and it has all paid off. I am hoping that he continues to work hard and doesn’t slack off.

My Health and Wellness final is tomorrow. I am hoping that it will be easy but I have a little bit of studying to do.

My spring break starts TOMORROW! Unfortunately, Jacob doesn’t have the same spring break as I do. I will still have to take him to school in the morning and during the day I have a lot of homework to catch up on.

I am looking forward to a tiny break from classes. I am hoping a get a lot done. Hopefully, I don’t get side tracked by laundry, cleaning, and cooking dinner.

That is it for now. I promise I won’t let a month pass again without updating.

In sad news – Dan’s grandma passed away last week. Her memorial was on Saturday. I was very moved that her whole family gathered together and celebrated her life. She was loved by all and will be truly missed. Please pray for Dan’s family to see God’s grace during this time.
